15 Mar Restaurant 101 at Enderun Colleges
Joie & Me | March 15, 2013
Earlier today, I had lunch at Restaurant 101 at Enderun Colleges in Fort Bonifacio.
“101 is the application restaurant of Enderun Colleges, which is home to Southeast Asia’s leading undergraduate culinary arts program. The restaurant’s stylish interiors evoke the casual elegance of a contemporary Parisian bistro, while the student wait staff, working under the watchful eyes of the College’s food and beverage faculty, brings freshness and unique charm to the 101 experience.”
It was proclaimed one of the best Philippine restaurants by the Asia Tatler.
I didn’t order any appetizer but I had a taste of my friend’s Crab Bisque (P240/$6). The server first placed a bowl on the table which had pieces of blue crab, croutons, and cream inside.
Then the server came back with a container and poured the bisque onto the bowl. Even if I had just a few spoonfuls, I recommend ordering this.
This is the 101 Caesar Salad (P340/$8.50), which is a classic Romaine salad with poached egg, bacon, and croutons. I wasn’t able to taste this so I can’t give you any feedback. But I find it interesting how they used poached instead of hardboiled eggs. I will probably order this salad on my next visit.
My other friend ordered Tanigue Tartar (P340/$8.50), which is basically raw fish with pomelo, cilantro, calamansi dressing, and salmon roe. It’s actually an appetizer which she had as a main. Again, I wasn’t able to taste this but my friend said that she liked it
The Tanigue Tartar comes with bread and chips.
Initially, the Prix Fixe selection (salad or soup, main course and dessert) caught my eye. Unfortunately, their main course for the day was pork and I didn’t feel like eating meat that day. I browsed the Fish & Seafood section and got the Grilled Seabass (P960/$24) with squid, capers, basil lemon, and balsamic reduction instead. It was just heavenly. I’m actually craving for it again while writing this post.
One of us got the Pan-Seared Salmon served with leek fondue, scallion oil and beurre blanc.
Dean Ed of Enderun offered us white wine to go with our food. Just perfect since everyone was having fish.
And now for the best part (as always)… Dessert! I was pretty excited for this particular chocolate wonder called Louis XV, said to be the signature dish of world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse.
While waiting for it to arrive, Dean Ed mentioned that Louis XV is only made in two places — in chef Alain’s restaurant in Monte Carlo, Monaco and in Restaurant 101 at Enderun Colleges. OMG. When I heard that, the chocolate lover in me died of excitement.
After what seemed like forever (probably just to me), the server placed two plates of Louis XV on our table.
Dark chocolate ganache and crisp hazelnut sponge with the signature gold leaf on top. One bite and I was in my happy place. No words can describe it.
It’s actually called Chocolate Delice (P280/$7) on the menu in case you want to order it. I prefer its original name though. What do you think?
Nikki got the Molten Chocolate Cake with ginger ice cream (P280/$7). Since she’s not really fond of rich chocolate, she liked this more than Louis XV.
Suzanne and Tori, both professors in Enderun, got the Lemongrass Creme Brulee (P240/$6). Because I was fixated on Louis XV, I wasn’t able to try it. But I’m pretty sure T, the creme brulee monster, will order this regardless of my review.
After eating, Dean Ed toured us around the campus. But I’ll save this for another post. Happy Friday everyone!
